Data methodology

How the dataset is built

SemiLiquids standardizes fragmented semi‑liquid private‑markets data into one comparable dataset. This page sets out where the data comes from, how it is normalized and linked to source, and how we present performance and coverage figures. Coverage as of Oct 2026.

01

What we cover

SemiLiquids researches semi‑liquid private‑market funds — evergreen, interval, tender‑offer, ELTIF, LTAF, BDC and other non‑traded structures offering periodic (not daily) liquidity. Coverage today spans 350+ funds across 1,020 share classes and 202 managers. We add funds as they are identified and verified; coverage is a living dataset, not a fixed list.

02

Where the data comes from

Datapoints are sourced from primary materials: fund factsheets, regulatory filings (SEC EDGAR, including N‑PORT and 8‑K filings, and EU/UK registers), manager websites and investor portals, and published offering documents. We do not restate or model figures managers report; we normalize their presentation so like is compared with like.

03

How we standardize

The same field means the same thing across every fund. Structures, strategies, liquidity terms (dealing frequency, notice, gates, lock‑ups), fees (management, incentive and their base), currencies, share classes and exposures are each mapped to a common definition and unit before comparison. AUM is normalized to a single currency and reporting basis where disclosed.

04

Source-linking

Key datapoints carry a reference back to the manager document, filing or published page they were taken from, with the as‑of date shown. Where a figure is not reported in a comparable form, we show an em dash (—) rather than estimating or back‑filling it.

05

Performance figures

Returns are shown net of fees at the share‑class level, in the stated currency, for the stated period, with the as‑of date. On marketing pages we display verified one‑month net total returns to illustrate data coverage — not as a performance ranking. Reference indices, where shown, are unmanaged, not investable, and for illustration only. Past performance is not indicative of future results.

06

Coverage figures & rounding

Headline coverage figures describe the SemiLiquids dataset itself. Fund, share‑class, manager and monthly‑series counts are the numbers researched on the platform; fund and series counts are rounded down to the nearest 50 and AUM to the nearest $100B for display. AUM under coverage is the aggregate latest‑reported fund‑level AuM across covered funds — it is not SemiLiquids’ own AuM or assets under administration.

07

Liquidity is always qualified

Semi‑liquid funds do not offer daily dealing. Redemption requests are accepted at set intervals and remain subject to gates, notice periods, available liquidity and fund terms. Terms shown are the manager’s stated terms as of the date referenced and may change.
